  1. It'd be great to have, you know, people vote on this one...

  2. I'm not going to be able to vote for a while until we get back to regular intertubes.

  3. I'm at a lake house full of family which means not much chance to listen to music. So I gave a quick listen and will register a tentative vote: Beirut. The Gaslight Anthem, at least this morning, seems too straightforward and Springsteen.

    1. I see now that the Springsteen comparisons are rife on the internet, and that, of course, not everybody views that as a bad thing.

  4. it's a close one because this is my favorite Beirut album
But American Slang kicks me in the gut more
and it's my pick so, you know, suck it.

    Gaslight forever!

  5. I'm going with Gaslight. Ended up listening to the album twice, so that's a good sign.

I had to take a nap in the middle of Beirut. I really did. In the middle of the afternoon.

I actually thought both were promising, but felt they were missing that special something. Will be checking out other albums from both though, so hugs all around.

  6. I say what ARNOYSER says too. So sad! We are on vacation at the lake. Also, my first vote was for Des Ark although still slightly bland...sorry Joe.

  7. Just gave these a quick listen on Spotify; Beirut first, then Gaslight Anthem. My wife Rebecca piped in from the next room: "I think the second one is more listenable". I agree, with curbed enthusiasm. "American Slang" gets my vote.

  8. I could go either way.

Anyway, American Slang gets my vote. If I were forced to listen to both for a while, I think I would end up liking it better.

  9. This was a tough call for me. Some people might say that Gaslight Anthem's songs all sound the same or that they sound too much like Springsteen or whatever. I say there are two kinds of people in this world: those who like songs that sound like Springsteen and the other bunch of @%&*#'s. Anyway, I really liked listening to this record.

But then I put on the Beirut record and really enjoyed that. It has a lot of horns. I'll vote for anything that has a lot of horns. My vote is for Beirut but just barely.

That makes it 5 to 2 for Gaslight. I'll give people until midnight tonight, but I think it looks like a Gaslight win.

    1. [I have not listened to either of these albums yet.] I must be one of those @%&*#s. I like singers that sing more than one note.

  10. Hello people. I've also been near a lake, but I guess I've been near one for longer than all of you because I've just now stumbled here. I'll join the fun and games next week. Woohoo.
