Wounded Rhymes - Lykke Li vs. The Walkmen - Lisbon

VS.

You know that guy who spends most of his life preaching abstinence but then gives into peer pressure and then just can't get enough?  (i.e. Karl).  Well, we should all be so inspired to get so caught up.  I mean, that guy's on fire...

  1. Wounded Rhymes gets my vote. It is new to me, and I enjoyed it, as I did The Walkmen, but slightly less... very slightly.

  2. So I'll vote for the The Walkmen. The dearly departed Walkmen.

I gotta say, though, WTF is up with this matchup. These two albums against each other, both of which I like quite a bit, after months and months of listening to all this other crap in the MDM. What gives?

    1. Who are you now, Eric Smith? Sounding pretty crotchety, Wilson.

    2. (Ummm...it does suck that 2 of yours were set up against each other. I just couldn't help myself.)

  3. I vote for Lykke Li. I never mind listening to The Walkmen, but they're a bit aloof for my taste.

  4. I vote for Lykke Li. I wasn't sure what to write about the Walkman, but I think that " I never mind listening to The Walkmen, but they're a bit aloof for my taste," sums it up pretty well for me.

  5. I CAUGHT UP!

    Good thing for holiday hiatii.

My vote goes pretty effortlessly to The Walkmen. I had a moment loving Music Death Match for reminding me how I can be star-struck with a certain band which leaves others saying "meh, it was okay." I haven't read anything about The Walkmen, and I haven't, ya know, figured out their lyrics or project or anything, but 3 for 3 albums of theirs have been so completely enjoyable to me that I don't stop to question it. Jangly guitar, power choruses, and hhhhnnnn vocals. It has it all.

Meanwhile, I'm glad for the introduction to Lykee Li. The music grabs me immediately, and I think she would finish high in my overall rankings for all MDM contestants. If I had to state a reservation: My spidey sense warns me I might think it shallow in the long run. (But sure, that could be said about almost any band.)

    The Walkmen!

  7. Lykke Li for me. (Crotchety, really, SBJ? Sigh. If you can't be crotchety in the MDM, then where??? And remember when I wrote that passionate defense of Foxygen and everybody said: "Poo-poo", like Madeline to the tiger in the zoo? Who was wearing their crotchety pants then??? I was clearly wearing my crotchetless ones, thank you very much...They are comfortable, and now that I am fast approaching 40, I dress almost exclusively for comfort.)
